Gunny's Indoor Shooting Range LLC offers several different types of firearms instruction, including group courses and private sessions.  There are six available classes, each open to a variety of skill levels. Classes include Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Course, Women on Target, Basic Handgun Course, Tactical Defensive Handgun Course, Competition Shooting Course, Armed Guard Class, and Carbine Class.

Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit

Our certified Tennessee handgun school teaches all the state required materials, provides the range space for qualification shooting, and administers the state’s written permit test. The entire program takes approximately 8 hours, and students leave with an official certificate needed to apply for the permit.  All of our instructors are properly certified and come from military backgrounds, with years of experience. Classes are filling up, so call now and sign up today!

Women on Target

Our 8 hour hands-on course designed for those who little to no experience with firearms.  The material in this course gives the knowledge to deter burglars, home invaders, and other criminals.  The class also includes information on ways to make your home less appealing to seasoned criminals, who are inclined to find easier targets.

There are, however, times when circumstances have no other option than the use of force to save ones life or the lives of others.  Under such circumstances, a firearm, most commonly a handgun, is unquestionably the most effective defensive tool available.  Although it is useful, the ability to use a handgun is not a skill that you are born with. The skills need instruction and practice to acquire.

Tactical Defensive Handgun Course

In life or death situations, the simple knowledge given in the handgun carry permit course may not be enough to protect yourself from eminent danger.  Real-life confrontations are almost always sudden, intense, and violent!  Basic handgun skills alone may not save your life.  This tactical defensive course is designed to teach the skills necessary to effectively use a handgun for self –defense.

During this class, the best available techniques in defensive handgun tactics and marksmanship will be taught.  Almost the entire course is conducted on the range using live-fire excercises. During this fast-paced course,  you will learn the elements of drawing from concealment, shooting in close-contact situations, firing from cover, moving and shooting, handling multiple threats, tactical reloading, and clearing a malfunction or jam.  Safe gun-handling is a practice that is stressed in all of our courses, especially the tactical defense class. In addition, the laws concerning self-defense are reviewed, and students are asked to evaluate various real-life scenarios where deadly-force may be used.

This course requires a quality handgun, holster, at least two magazines or speed loaders, ear and eye protection, and at least 200 rounds of ammunition. The course lasts approximately 12 hours, and is broken up over 3 days.

Competition Shooting Course

The next step in becoming a seasoned shooter is competing.  This all has to start somewhere, and we offer a class to teach some aspects of competitive shooting.  The curriculum covers IDPA, USPSA/IPSC, Steel Challenge and GSSF Shooting Sports competitions.   This class is taught by two professional competition shooters. This class takes place on three consecutive Mondays, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Equipment needed will be covered on the first day of class. Beginners welcome, this course will be introductory.

Armed Security Guard Class

This is the course required by the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance to obtain an Armed Security Guard License. This course covers the Tennessee Private Protective Services Law and Rule book and the guidelines set forth by the state. Training includes a final examination covering subjects taught in class. Armed security guard applicants must complete four hours of marksmanship training, and they must achieve a score of 70% or greater on a silhouette target course.

Class begins with an orientation. It will cover legal powers and limitation of a security officer, emergency procedures, and general duties including patrolling and report writing. It also provides training for weapons that are less than lethal, legal limitation on the use of a firearm, and how to safely handle and maintain a firearm. Class is 16 hours and is spread up over two days.
